Wednesday Hearing on Proposed Abortion Facility in South Bend

November 27, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS – A hearing is set for Wednesday in Indianapolis to determine the future of the proposed abortion facility in South Bend, Ind. A three-member appeals panel will consider the state’s appeal of an October recommendation by an administrative judge to grant an abortion license to Whole Woman’s Health Alliance (WWHA).

The three-member appeals panel will consist of an administrative law judge and two members of the Indiana State Department of Health’s executive board. According to the South Bend Tribune, the ISDH didn’t hand-pick panel members.

WWHA first applied for an abortion facility license in 2017. The State of Indiana denied WWHA’s application for an abortion license in January. The denial letter stated: “Based upon the Department’s review, the Commissioner finds WWHA failed to meet the requirement that the Applicant is of reputable and responsible character and the supporting documentation provided inaccurate statements and information.”

“We urge the members of the appeals panel to remember women’s health and safety is at stake in South Bend,” said Mike Fichter. “Women deserve better than abortion. If given the opportunity to open, WWHA will begin aborting unborn children immediately. We don’t want WWHA to have that opportunity. We are praying the appeals panel will make a decision that protects life in South Bend.”
