Thousands of Hoosiers to Hear Pence Speak at National March for Life

Pence Becomes Highest Ranking Elected Official to Ever Address the Massive Crowd In-Person

WASHINGTON – Today, thousands of Hoosiers will listen to U.S. Vice President Mike Pence address the National March for Life crowd in Washington. Thousands of Hoosiers will join the more than 600,000 expected attendees at the 43rd annual March for Life, which protests abortion. The March for Life is the largest, regularly occurring demonstration.

Pence will become the highest ranking elected official to ever address the massive March for Life crowd in-person. He regularly addressed the pro-life demonstration while serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Indiana Right to Life is aware of 40 charter buses, most carrying students, that have departed the Hoosier state for the March for Life. Thousands of more pro-life advocates are expected to attend on their own.

“We expect record-breaking attendance at the 2017 March for Life,” said Mike Ficher, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “The pro-life community is motivated and we’re dedicated. We have been marching for 43 years. We would have been back no matter who won the White House. But certainly, we are especially energized this year as we see the pro-life advances being made by President Donald Trump and the pro-life controlled U.S. House of Representatives. We invite mainstream media to check out the March for Life and see how peaceful it is as we seek an end to abortion.”

Indiana’s Pro-Life U.S. Reps Vote to End Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

January 25, 2017

WASHINGTON – Today, seven of Indiana’s U.S. representatives voted for H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. The pro-life representatives who voted to bar taxpayer funding of abortion were: Reps. Jackie Walorski (IN-2), Jim Banks (IN-3), Todd Rokita (IN-2), Susan Brooks (IN-5), Luke Messer (IN-6), Larry Bucshon (IN-8) and Trey Hollingsworth (IN-9).

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act makes permanent the Hyde Amendment, which is credited with saving the lives of two million Americans. The White House issued a statement saying President Donald Trump will sign H.R. 7 into law when it reaches his desk.

“We extend our hearty thanks to Indiana’s seven pro-life representatives who voted to protect taxpayers and protect life,” said Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “Hoosiers do not want to fund the destruction of human life. We’re pleased the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act passed the House with the support of Reps. Walorski, Banks, Rokita, Brooks, Messer, Bucshon and Hollingsworth. We look forward to Congress next defunding Planned Parenthood of all taxpayer funds.”

Pro-life Community Congratulates Pence Ahead of Inauguration

January 19, 2017

Trump/Pence

WASHINGTON – Indiana Right to Life and the pro-life community congratulate Mike Pence as he prepares to be sworn in as Vice President of the United States. Indiana Right to Life President and CEO, Mike Fichter, released the following statement:

“Mike Pence has a heart for the unborn and their mothers. His commitment to pro-life policies as Indiana governor led to abortion numbers declining and abortion facilities shutting their doors. While a Member of Congress, Pence led the charge to defund abortion businesses, like Planned Parenthood, of taxpayer funds.

“We look forward to Pence protecting life with President-Elect Donald Trump. Pence’s strong pro-life commitment will become readily apparent to those in our nation’s capital. Pence understands that the right to life is foundational to who we are as Americans. We are praying for the new administration as they are sworn-in and begin governing.”

The Indiana abortion rate declined each year and four abortion facilities closed while Pence was governor. Between 2013 and 2016, Pence signed numerous pro-life measures into law. Among them:

  • Prohibit children from being targeted for abortion on the sole basis of their sex, race, national origin or a potential disability
  • Provide final dignified disposition of aborted babies so that they aren’t treated as medical waste or used for experiments
  • Establish health and safety standards at chemical abortion facilities
  • Provide $1,000 adoption credit for parents
  • Increase penalties for failure to properly report abortions
  • Promote umbilical cord donation, an ethical alternative to embryonic stem cell research
  • Require that abortion doctors document their admitting privileges with the State Department of Health
  • Increase awareness of positive support for parents of Down syndrome children
  • Provide information on perinatal hospice to parents who receive an adverse prenatal diagnosis
  • Increase informed consent measures for women seeking abortions, including full color photos of fetal development printed in informed consent information
  • Protect consumers from being forced to pay for private insurance plans that include unrestricted abortion coverage

Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.

Hoosiers Can Count on Their Pro-Life Reps to Defund Planned Parenthood

January 11, 2017

Last week U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan said the House will soon have the opportunity to defund Planned Parenthood. Currently, America’s largest abortion business rakes in $500 million in a year in federal funding.

We believe no business that ends children’s lives should receive a dime of tax payer funding.

We expect Donald Trump to sign legislation defunding Planned Parenthood when it reaches his desk. Last fall he said, “I am committed to defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions and reallocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women.”

We also expect our pro-life representatives to eagerly take Speaker Ryan up on his offer to defund Planned Parenthood. Rep. Trey Hollingsworth, Indiana’s Ninth District Representative, leaves no doubts about his position:

“Taxpayer dollars should never fund abortion, period. I am proudly pro-life and I’m proud to stand with Speaker Ryan and the unborn.”

Indiana’s Second District Representative, Jackie Walorski, told us exactly how she’ll vote:

“Taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize the destruction of life, which is why I have long supported restricting federal funding for abortion providers. I look forward to voting again to stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood, and to seeing this bill signed into law.”

Indiana’s Third District Representative, Jim Banks, articulated his strong stand:

“I strongly support efforts to fully defund Planned Parenthood and ensure taxpayer dollars are not supporting the inhumane practices of our nation’s largest abortion provider. We must stand for the protection of innocent human life and end federal funding for this morally bankrupt organization.”

Once Congress defunds Planned Parenthood, the money will be redirected to abortion-free health care organizations serving women. Women will be better served after Planned Parenthood is defunded.

If you agree that it’s time to end Planned Parenthood’s federal funding, click here to contact your representative. If he or she is already committed to defunding the abortion giant, your message will let them know you stand with them. Our Indiana members of Congress need to know we are behind them in this drive to end Planned Parenthood’s federal funding.
