Supreme Court Hobby Lobby Decision a Win for Religious Freedom

June 30, 2014

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties’ case regarding the Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate. The mandate refers to the requirement in Obamacare that forces private companies to provide birth control and abortion-causing drugs in employee insurance plans. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties’ owners argued that the HHS Mandate violated their religious freedom.

“Today’s outcome is a victory for religious freedom,” stated Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “No company should be forced to provide drugs that end a human life. Because of today’s ruling, now no closely held company will have to provide those drugs under Obamacare. This is a big win for the unborn and for religious freedom.”

Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.

Planned Parenthood’s Dangerous Sex Coaching Not Worthy of Funding

June 27, 2014

ClassroomPlanned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky’s CEO, Betty Cockrum, recently waged a public relations campaign in newspapers across the state. Cockrum touted the need for Planned Parenthood’s version of sex education for Hoosier teens.

Cockrum called for sex education that includes “an abstinence-plus curriculum.” Parents of Hoosier children deserve to know what is included in the “plus.” If a recent conservation between a Planned Parenthood employee and a 15-year-old is any indication, the “plus” portion is dark, deviant and dangerous.

In an undercover video released June 11 by Live Action, an employee at Planned Parenthood’s Midtown Health Clinic in Indianapolis coached a 15-year-old on sadomasochism, purchasing and using sex toys, watching pornography and other sexual activity far too graphic for this column.

In many instances, the employee recounted her own sexual experiences for the girl. She advised the girl on finding more sex tips online. And when the girl confessed she sometimes had unprotected sex, the employee offered no rebuke.

Sadly, this type of sex education by Planned Parenthood is no isolated incident. Search YouTube and you’ll find a Planned Parenthood-produced video promoting bondage and sadomasochism to teens. A Planned Parenthood webpage for teens instructs readers on anal sex. And Live Action claims they have similar videos to the one recorded in Indianapolis being released soon. Will Planned Parenthood cross every line when it comes to talking to teens about sex?

As a parent, I don’t want Planned Parenthood teaching my kids, or anyone else’s kids, about sex. Encouraging violent sexual activity sets up our youth for disaster. From the potential for sexually transmitted diseases and physical injuries, to broken relationships and unintended pregnancies, the risk is far too great.

Given what we know about Planned Parenthood’s true brand of sex education, parents, educators and legislators have a responsibility to keep the organization out of our classrooms. We should also question how they carry on this type of instruction. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky is the recipient of more than $1.6 million in federal funds, divvied out by the non-profit group, Indiana Family Health Council. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky also receives funds as a Medicaid provider and receives support from the national Planned Parenthood organization. In fiscal year 2012-2013, national Planned Parenthood received more than $540 million in tax dollars, or nearly $1.5 million per day.

It is time to cut off taxpayer dollars to this extreme organization. We called on Indiana’s federal representatives to take action. Sen. Joe Donnelly told an Indiana media outlet that the conversation in the video was not appropriate for a 15-year-old. His position gives us hope that he will take legislative action against the organization before they victimize other young girls with our tax dollars.

We ask Sen. Donnelly, along with Reps. Susan Brooks, Pete Visclosky and Andre Carson, to join their colleagues in cosponsoring bills to remove Planned Parenthood’s funding. We also ask you to speak up on this issue. Let your elected officials know that you will not stand for taxpayer funds promoting dangerous sexual activity to our youth. You can contact your representatives personally or you can sign a petition to legislators on our website.

We don’t expect that Planned Parenthood will ever cease sexualizing our youth, but they should no longer do it with our tax dollars.

Indiana Right to Life Supports Stutzman’s Bid for GOP Whip

June 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Indiana Right to Life adds its support for Rep. Marlin Stutzman’s (IN-03) bid for Republican Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives. Indiana Right to Life President and CEO Mike Fichter said:

“Indiana Right to Life is proud to support Rep. Stutzman’s race for Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives. If selected by his colleagues to be GOP Whip, we are confident Rep. Stutzman will not waver from his pro-life convictions. Rep. Stutzman’s Hoosier values and pro-life voice will help advance protections of innocent, human life.

“We first worked with Rep. Stutzman after he was elected in 2002 and became the youngest member in the Indiana House at the age of 26. In 2005, he co-authored the first pro-life legislation to pass in Indiana in 12 years. Since taking federal office on November 2, 2010, Rep. Stutzman quickly emerged as an effective leader. Rep. Stutzman has made public statements in support of life and taken action to protect life without being concerned about the political cost. A selection of Rep. Stutzman’s recent pro-life actions:

“-In a 2013 Washington Times column, Rep. Stutzman shared that his mother considered aborting him. He also wrote, ‘For 40 years, our society has been unwilling to come to grips with the grim truth about abortion. We’ve raced down a dead-end street, willfully blind to the facts, only to find ourselves at 3801 Lancaster St. – Kermit Gosnell’s clinic in West Philadelphia.’

“-In 2013, Rep. Stutzman joined two of his colleagues in introducing House Resolution 206, which called on Congress to review public policies that led to illegal abortion practices, such as those of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortion provider. He said, ‘We owe it to the weakest among us to investigate public policies and abortion practices to determine what can be done to prevent more of these barbaric crimes. In a nation grounded upon equal protection under the law, Congress has an obligation to gather the facts and prevent future atrocities.’

“-Rep. Stutzman led more than 15 of his colleagues in speeches on the floor of the U.S. House in 2013 exposing the Gosnell abortion horrors. He shared, ‘Kermit Gosnell is a real-life Hannibal Lecter. Gosnell operated an abortion clinic that severed the necks of hundreds of babies and stuffed their bodies into freezers, plastic bags, and cat food tins.’

“-Last week, Rep. Stutzman did not mince his words when addressing the recent Live Action undercover video about sexual activity filmed at an Indiana Planned Parenthood. Stutzman told iChooseLife: News and Views radio host, Cathie Humbarger, ‘It is so appalling and very disturbing that these services would be offered to a 15-year-old especially in the state of Indiana. [It is also appalling] that [Planned Parenthood] receives tax dollars to fund their operations.’

“We urge Indiana’s other Republican representatives to support Rep. Stutzman’s bid for House GOP Whip. We also urge pro-life constituents with Republican representatives to contact their Member of Congress and urge support of Rep. Stutzman.”

Stutzman is the senior Republican from Indiana who won his seat in a 2010 special election. Prior to the U.S. House, Stutzman served in the Indiana House of Representatives (2002-2008) and in the Indiana State Senate (2008-2010).

Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.

Watch the video here (WARNING : the video may not be appropriate for viewers under 18. Viewer discretion is advised).

Sign our petition calling for the end of taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood

We’ll be forwarding this petition to Indiana’s congressional delegation as well as to the Indiana Family Health Council, a nonprofit that funnels millions of federal dollars directly from the HHS to Planned Parenthood.

Are you outraged?  Help us do something about it now.

Indiana Planned Parenthood Employee Counsels 15-Year-Old on Rough Sex

June 11, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS – An undercover video released today by Live Action shows an employee at Planned Parenthood Midtown Health Center in Indianapolis counseling a client on engaging in sadomasochism, or the purposeful inclusion of pain in intercourse. The employee explained sadomasochistic elements of whipping, biting and pain. She also coaches the client on role-play, sex toys, finding pornography online and urges the client to read the sexually graphic novel, “50 Shades of Grey.” The client in the video identified herself as 15-years-old.

“The content of this video will shock the vast majority of Hoosiers,” said Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “The conversation between the Planned Parenthood counselor and the client, believed to be 15, is not only graphic and sexual, but the employee is counseling the teen down a dangerous road. This video demonstrates an appalling sexualization of our young girls.

“This video shows that Planned Parenthood has no place in teaching sex education in our schools. If this recorded conversation doesn’t cross the line for the organization, does anything? Planned Parenthood’s sexual encouragement opens up a lifetime of potential hurt for our young people, from broken relationships to sexually transmitted diseases.

“We call on educators and parents to keep Planned Parenthood from teaching sex education in our schools. Furthermore, this video provides one more reason to rescind federal funding from Planned Parenthood and we urge our legislators to end taxpayer handouts to the nation’s largest abortion provider.”Live Action video screen shot

The video is available at (the video may not be appropriate for viewers under 18). An extended version of the video is also available on Live Action’s Planned Parenthood Exposed website to users above age 18.
