DALLAS – Cole Smith, 18, of Pittsboro, Ind., received fourth place in the National Right to Life Jane B. Thompson Oratory Contest held on June 29. Smith’s speech highlighted the personhood of a baby in the womb. He also shared that doctors recommended he be aborted to preserve his mother’s life and that his mother lost his brother in the second trimester of pregnancy.

“Cole is a gifted orator and we’re pleased he received fourth place at the National Right to Life competition,” stated Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “Cole’s speech on the right to life of an unborn child in the womb provides an excellent defense of the pro-life position and we encourage him to continue defending the voiceless among us.”

“Our young people will be the generation to end abortion and with young leaders like Cole, we know they are up to the task,” said Marc Tuttle, President of Right to Life of Indianapolis. “Cole’s articulate defense of the unborn highlights the growing number of young people engaging in the pro-life movement.”

Smith recently graduated from his homeschool education. He will attend Purdue University in the fall for agricultural business with an emphasis on finance. The National Right to Life Jane B. Thompson Oratory Contest is open to high school seniors and juniors.
