Governor Daniels makes conservative appointment to Indiana Supreme Court in Judge Steven David
September 17, 2010
Indianapolis, IN – Indiana Right to Life is praising Governor Mitch Daniels’ appointment today of Judge Steven David to the Indiana Supreme Court. David, who holds to a true conservative philosophy in judicial decision-making, will replace the retiring Justice Theodore Boehm who is well-known for his activist pro-abortion positions in cases dealing with abortion funding and informed consent issues.
In a statement on the appointment, Daniels expressed his approval for Judge David’s “clearest expression of commitment to proper restraint in jurisprudence, and to deep respect for the boundaries of judicial decision-making. He will be a judge who interprets rather than invents our laws.”
“Governor Daniels is to be applauded for taking this opportunity to steer the Indiana Supreme Court back to its proper role in strictly interpreting the Indiana Constitution,” states Indiana Right to Life President and CEO Mike Fichter. “We believe that Judge Steven David will serve honorably on the Indiana Supreme Court and are pleased that a judge with a conservative judicial philosophy will replace a justice who was unrestrained in stretching the Indiana Constitution to embrace his personal views on abortion.”
